Sonyachnyk or Sonyachnyky is a mild name for inhabitants of the Empire of the Sun. It is not used officially. It comes from the name “Empire of the Sun.” In distant times before the Great Departure, it was believed that the sun rose first over their empire. A sonyachnyk is a sunflower, a plant that always tries to orient itself toward the sun and follows its path across the sky. That is the origin of the name.
